PEMRA Orders GEO TV to Prove False allegation levied on Mr. Shehryar Khan Afridi
PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) has taken notice on the News Bulletin of Geo TV telecasted on October 12, 2018, aired around 21:00 hrs. Headlines were aired pertaining to Mr. Shehryar Khan Afridi, State Minister for Interior, on his alleged involvement in utilizing government funds for the renovation of his official residence in Islamabad.
PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority)has stated that by airing this false and baseless news M/s Independent Media Corporation (Pvt.) Ltd. “Geo News” has violated the provision of Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.
Further PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) has in its notice has said the report is strongly disproved/denied by the Minister of Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literature.
M/s Independent Media Corporation (Pvt.) Ltd. “Geo News” Has Only 2 Days
Geo TV has only two days to prove its allegation and by Monday, October 15, 2018, must submit a report to defend its news report.
In case GEO TV fails to provide evidence should immediately tender an apology to State Minister.
In case GEO TV fails to provide evidence or fails to tender an apology, the Authority will take action which inter-alia includes the imposition of fine or suspension of license as per PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority)laws.
