In a tragic incident on Tuesday, at least seven individuals, including three children, were injured in a blast targeting police personnel on Warsak Road in Peshawar. Authorities revealed that the explosion took place as a mobile vehicle from the Machnigate Police Station was on its routine patrol.
SSP Operations Kashif Aftab Abbasi shared details, stating that the militants aimed to target the police vehicle. Fortunately, the injured were swiftly taken to Lady Reading Hospital, where two children, aged between 7 to 10 years, are reported to be in critical condition.
Despite the immediate response, no arrests have been made at this point, but Abbasi assured that efforts are underway to apprehend those involved. The police are closely examining CCTV footage of the incident to gather more information.
Superintendent Police Arshad Khan, present at the scene, mentioned that the blast occurred around 9:10 am, with the explosives weighing 4kg and concealed in a roadside cement block. A search operation in the surrounding areas has been initiated, and the possibility of extortion as a motive is being considered.
Following the blast at Peshawar’s Warsak Road, police and Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the Babu Garhi area in Peshawar. Rescue officials reported damage to the glass of two vehicles and nearby buildings due to the blast’s intensity. Mayor Metropolitan Zubair Ali expressed concern over the incident, stating that targeting an area near a school was an unfortunate attempt to disrupt peace and order.
The community is left in shock as investigations continue to unfold, with hopes for the swift apprehension of those responsible for this distressing incident.
