Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a Petrol Relief Package for low-income individuals in Pakistan who own motorcycles, rickshaws, and small cars with 800cc engines.
According to the details, the Petrol Relief Package will provide a subsidy of Rs. 50 per litre to motorcycles, rickshaws and small cars in order to provide assistance to the poor.
The development comes a few days after the Federal Government increased the petrol prices in pakistan by up to Rs. 13 per litre, except Light Diesel Oil (LDO) for the next fortnight.
In a notification, the Finance Ministry stated that increase in prices of petroleum products was due to hike in Platts Singapore prices and the Pakistani Rupee’s depreciation against the US Dollar during this period.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a meeting in Lahore, said that the Petrol Relief Package will be provided to low-income consumers who have motorcycles, rickshaws, 800cc cars and other small vehicles.

He added that since motorcycles, rickshaws, and small cars were used by low-income individuals, the petrol subsidy will provide a much needed relief to this segment. “The Government is making efforts to help the poor despite the economic challenges.” he added.
However, the reduction is price of petrol for low income individuals will not reduce the inflationary impact of the increase in petroleum prices by the Federal Government for the current fortnight.
It is still unclear on how the Government plans to implement the new Petrol Relief Package for low-income individuals.
