PM Khan Launches Sehat Card in Islamabad

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday has launched Naya Pakistan Sehat Card Scheme in Islamabad. The Naya Pakistan Sehat Card will provide Rs. 1 million per year to each family under the Health Coverage Programme for medical treatment at government or private hospitals.

The Naya Pakistan Sehat Card has already been launched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Under the programme, all families in Islamabad, Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and Tharparkar will be provided free medical assistance of Rs. 1 million each year for medical treatment.

Addressing the launch ceremony, the premier said that those who looted the country’s money are undergoing medical treatment abroad and their entire family is sitting in London for treatment.

He added that under the Naya Pakistan Sehat Card, every family will be able to avail healthcare facilities up to Rs. 1 million in a year. The premier said that Pakistan is the only country in the world to introduce such a unique ambitious program for providing free healthcare facility to its citizens.

Prime Minister said that the poverty-stricken people in Pakistan face problems in medical treatment due to lack of money. Health issues lead to economic problems for the people and our aim is to relieve them of this suffering through the Naya Pakistan Sehat Card Scheme.

“This will prove as a defining moment in improvement of healthcare services in Pakistan,” he said, adding that the launch of the Naya Pakistan Sehat Card is a landmark step to accommodate people bearing the burden of medical treatment.

“We will be an example to the world of what a welfare state is,” he told the participants of the launch ceremony, where Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, Special Assistant to PM on Health Faisal Sultan, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, and others were present.

He also added that the government was establishing five mother and child hospitals in view of the high mortality rate from neonatal and pregnancy complications.
