PML-N MPA Sania Ashiq Responds to Leaked Video Going Viral

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sania Ashiq has responded to the leaked video going viral on social media that became the trending topic as netizens discuss whether the girl seen in the viral video is actually Sania Ashiq or is it just an attempt to malign her reputation as there have been several such cases in the past as well.

Netizens on social media were demanding that the provincial leader clarify the situation regarding the viral video and PML-N MPA Sania Ashiq has confirmed that the leaked video going viral on social media is fake and an attempt to malign her character.

It bears mentioning that Sania Ashiq was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Punjab as a candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) in the 2018 General Election, becoming one of the youngest member of the Punjab Assembly at the age of 25.

Sania Ashiq was severely criticized following the leaked video going viral on social media as many people believed the nude girl in the clip to be the politician herself. However, there are several differences in facial features when looked at closely and it clearly confirms that the person in the video is just a lookalike of the PML-N MPA.

The politician has requested the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Unit to take action against the accounts involved in spreading the fake leaked video on social media. She mentions that she has been a target of harassment, defamation and blackmail since July “by a number of accounts operating on social media under original and fictitious names.”

Sania Ashiq states that it all began by number of TikTok accounts editing video clips from various political events and adding lewd songs and vulgar remarks to them. “This was followed by hundreds of fake and imposter accounts registered in my name and using my pictures.” she added.

“I started receiving hundreds of calls and messages from different unknown numbers everyday who would make unbearably offensive and unwelcomed sexual comments about me, forcing me to change my number [redacted]. stated Sania Ashiq, adding that she will provide all evidence, including call records to the assigned investigating officer at a later stage.

Sania Ashiq was especially distraught about people taking pictures of her father and herself being taken and edited to give them a sexual meaning. “The pictures capturing the last moments of my father with me that I shared on my social media handle were also edited and superimposed to give them a sexual meaning.” she wrote in the letter.

“If this was not enough, various sexually-explicit video clips and photos circulating on various social media platforms are being associated with attributed to me in an attempt to assassinate my character and reputation, clearly for ulterior political gains.” stated Sania Ashiq regarding the faked leaked videos going viral on social media.

“In light of the above, I request you to take stern and effective legal action against the following accounts under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2014 (PECA 2014) and the Pakistan Penal Code 1860 (PPC).” requested Sania Ashiq in her letter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Cell.

It is pertinent to mention that former Sindh Governor and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Muhammad Zubair Umar also had his alleged leaked video going viral on the internet. However, the politician denied any involvement in the matter and termed the clip being shared on social media as “fake and doctored.”
