The caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, visited the Children’s Hospital after reports of 36 children, most of them infants, dying from pneumonia across the province this month alone.
He revealed that 8 out of 10 children were suffering from pneumonia in the Children’s Hospital’s emergency and urged parents to take proper care of children.
Furthermore, the CM stated that Punjab Government was going to launch an awareness campaign regarding pneumonia and requested media to invite specialist doctors in the morning shows.
Moreover, he said that schools for prep and nursery classes have been closed till January 19 and closed have been directed not to hold morning assembly till January 31 to avoid the cold weather.
The CM also urged the elderly to take care of their diet along with wearing warm clothes and mask to protect themselves from the cold weather.
It is pertinent to mention that young children and elderly are most affected by cold and run the risk of catching pneumonia.
Additionally, mask wearing has been made mandatory by schools and children suffering from cough, fever, or a sore throat need to get examined by a doctor and stay at home.
