The police has managed to retrieve the vehicle and the alleged murder weapon from his home in DHA Karachi, however, the suspect is still at large. Meanwhile the police are carrying out raids at the houses of his close friends and have distributed pictures of Khurram Nisar along with details of his travel documents to airports.
According to reports, Abdul Rehman and his partner, both part of recently formed Shaheen Force, were patrolling the streets near Ideal Bakery in Clifton’s Block 5 when they hailed down a car with tinted windows over suspicion of trying to ‘abduct a girl.’
SSP South Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that both policemen, who were riding a motorcycle, were trying to take the suspect’s vehicle to the police station when the incident took place. “The suspect pulled out a pistol on the policemen, starting a heated exchange of words that resulted in an armed stand-off between the two [Abdul Rehman and Khurram Nisar].”
However, the suspect refused to comply and go to the police station with the two cops and fired shots at one of them, killing him on the spot. Meanwhile, the other police officer responded by opening fire at the suspect but he remained unhurt and managed to flee the scene in his vehicle.
It is pertinent to mention that the suspect, Khurram Nisar, is an expatriate, who arrived from Sweden on November 5 and the police has informed all airports regarding his identity to ensure his arrest at the earliest. Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of the martyred cop, Abdul Rehman, were offered at Garden Police Station with several senior police officials in attendance.
First Information Report (FIR) was also lodged against Khurram Nisar on the complaint of Clifton Police Station Superintendent, Muhammad Shabbir Ahmed, over charges of terrorism, murder and shootout with the police. Furthermore, the FIR also contains the detailed statement of Abdul Rehman, the deceased cop’s partner, who was present at the scene of the incident.
