ISLAMABAD: The power tariff has been increased by Rs. 1.95 per unit because of the old PML-N government, according to the Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub in a press conference on Thursday.
During a press conference on Thursday, the federal minister announced an increase in the electricity price saying that the PML-N government had left landmines for the coming government, including a huge deficit that PTI is trying to recover.
Omar Ayub announced an increase of Rs. 1.95 per unit in the power tariff saying that it was due to the poor agreements signed by the PML-N government.
He added that despite the difficult circumstances, a subsidy of Rs. 473 billion has been given to the power sector.
Federal Minister for Planning, Asad Umar, who was present at the press conference said that PML-N had left the coming government with a multitude of challenges in the power sector but steps are being taken to deal with the situation.
It is pertinent to mention that NEPRA also approved an increase in electricity price by Rs. 1.06 per unit on 11th January 2021.
