To address energy needs and promote sustainable solutions, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has revealed plans to give free solar systems / panels to deserving individuals all over the country.
PPP leader Khurshid Shah explained the initiative, which aims to provide households with free solar systems that can generate up to 300 units of electricity. This plan aligns with the party’s election promise to offer free electricity to consumers using up to 300 units of power once they take office.
However, Shah noted that implementing the program will take time due to its complexity.
The PPP’s announcement comes as other political parties, like the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), also promise free electricity. The PML-N Vice President had previously outlined plans to provide free electricity to consumers using up to 200 units.
Additionally, the Punjab provincial government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, recently announced its own ambitious project to distribute solar systems across the province. In the first phase of the “solar home solution program,” chaired by Chief Minister Nawaz, 50,000 solar systems will be given out. These systems include advanced solar panels, inverters, batteries, and other necessary parts. An initial budget of 12.6 billion rupees has been set aside for this phase of the program.
