ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a stark warning to consumers. In an official statement shared on social media, the PTA urged the public to exercise extreme caution when purchasing mobile phones from the market.
The PTA’s alert highlights the risk of cloned or duplicate mobile devices. To avoid falling prey to such scams, the authority advises consumers to only buy phones from reliable sources. They stress the importance of ensuring that each device comes with a valid warranty.
For added security, the PTA instructs buyers to opt for boxed mobile phones. They should verify the PTA stamp on the box and check that the IMEI number on the phone matches the one on the box. This step is crucial to confirm the authenticity of the device.
To further ensure their phones are genuine, users can visit the PTA’s official website at https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk. Alternatively, they can text their IMEI number to 8484 or use the DVS app.
The PTA also warns against purchasing expensive devices at unusually low prices or those without a warranty. Such deals are often too good to be true and can lead to significant financial loss.
Consumers are strongly encouraged to report any issues immediately. If they encounter a scam, they should contact the vendor and report the incident to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Stay vigilant and follow these guidelines to protect yourself from mobile phone fraud.
