Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has developed a new mechanism of temporary registration without payment of taxes that will allow imported mobile phones to work for 120 days. The step has been taken to address issues faced by overseas Pakistanis and foreigners with regards to the PTA mobile registration system while visiting Pakistan for the short duration.
The authority is currently in the process of developing and testing the new system to ensure robustness and technical functionality. The mechanism of temporary registration will be made available soon and details will be provided by PTA on their website once the new service goes live.

Under the new mechanism, PTA will allow temporary registration of imported mobile phones without payment of taxes and duties that will enable them to work for 120 days. This will provide convenience to overseas Pakistanis and foreigners who visit the country for a short duration (up to 120 days).
However, the applicant will be required to apply for temporary registration of their mobile phone with PTA by entering their credentials and device IMEI via PTA’s Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). The DIRBS system will be connected by PTA with the FIA’s Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) for passport number validation as well as with mobile operators for validation of mobile number SIM belonging to the applicant.
