The first session of the newly elected National Assembly (NA) was held today despite the President Alvi’s refusal. The NA session was attended by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers in an unexpected way, as they arrived wearing masks that resembled the face their imprisoned leader, Imran Khan.
PTI lawmakers showed their strong support for their party’s founder and former chairman and demanded his release. The elected representatives also brought posters of Imran Khan along with them.
These are some pictures of the PTI politicians donning Imran Khan masks:
This protest comes at a time when PTI is facing difficulties after Imran Khan was removed from his position as prime minister in April 2022 through a no-confidence vote. Despite this setback, the PTI won the recent elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), though their candidates ran as independents due to obstacles placed for the party.
While the party’s supporters appreciated the lawmakers for wearing Imran Khan’s masks, the supporters of opposition parties criticized the matter online, saying that PTI politicians were not serious about the country’s problems and the whole scene looked like some Halloween party and a joke.
