Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Mumtaz Mustafa passed away on Monday due to a heart attack, according to the NA Secretariat.
Mustafa, who represented the NA-171 constituency, was a prominent figure from Rahim Yar Khan in southern Punjab. He was residing at the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad at the time of his death.
The National Assembly session, scheduled for the day, was convened to express condolences and was adjourned without further proceedings. NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq announced a solemn day in the house, with no thumping or celebrations allowed in respect for Mustafa’s memory.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmaker Kahwaja Izhaar ul Haq revealed a troubling detail: an ambulance could not reach Mustafa’s lodge promptly due to other members’ cars blocking the road. This led NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to order the deputy speaker to clear the roads immediately.
Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub Khan expressed his heartfelt condolences, highlighting Mustafa’s kind and generous nature. “Mumtaz Mustafa will always be remembered,” said Khan, emphasizing the loss to the PTI and the nation.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar also paid tribute to Mustafa, remembering him as a renowned lawyer and a person of great abilities. He extended his prayers to Mustafa’s family during this difficult time.
Mumtaz Mustafa’s untimely death has left a void in the National Assembly and among his constituents in Rahim Yar Khan. His contributions to law and politics will be long remembered, and his absence deeply felt.
