Despite the news circulating on social media, the Government of Sindh has not announced a public holiday in Karachi and Hyderabad on 18 August 2022 (Thursday) due to heavy rainfall. According to the details, a fake notification was shared on social media stating that Sindh Government had announced a public holiday in Karachi and Hyderabad due to relentless rain in both cities causing urban flooding and power outages in several areas.
“In wake of torrential monsoon rains, the Government of Sindh declares Thursday, 18th August, 2022 as public holiday, throughout Karachi and Hyderabad Divisions only,” said the fake notification.
Furthermore, the fake notification advised private sector in Karachi and Hyderabad Divisions to keep businesses closed during public holiday on 18 August 2022 (Thursday) keeping in view the safety of the general public.

However, the heavy monsoon rain spell has left most areas in Karachi and Hyderabad submerged in water along with power and telecommunication outages.
Earlier, the Government of Sindh announced that all public and private schools and colleges across the province will remain closed on 18th August 2022 due to the heavy monsoon rain. Furthermore, Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has also postponed all intermediate exams on Thursday.
