ISLAMABAD – The Federal Government has announced public holidays on Muharram 9 and 10 (July 16, Tuseday and 17, Wednesday) in observance of Ashura 2024.
An official notification has been issued to this effect.
The first day of the new Hijri year 1446 was observed on Monday, July 8.
Members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Department of Meteorology, SUPARCO, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, convened in Quetta for the moon sighting. Simultaneously, provincial and district moon sighting committees held their meetings at their respective headquarters.
The first Islamic month, Muharram, is a period of mourning for Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), his family, and his companions who were martyred during the Battle of Karbala.
