The Government of Punjab has announced a complete lockdown in Lahore on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) due to worsening coronavirus situation in the city.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner Lahore Division Muhammad Usman on Friday, who said that all businesses and markets will remain closed as part of the complete lockdown in Lahore over the weekends.
However, the commissioner clarified that essential services will be exempted from the complete lockdown, including medical stores, clinics, petrol pump and vaccination centers.
“I would request citizens to buy items of necessary use today,” he said.
Furthermore, the Punjab Cabinet has expressed concerns over rising coronavirus cases and death toll and decided to further restrictions in cities with a high positivity ratio in order to get a handle on the infections.
The provincial ministers have proposed a complete lockdown in major cities, including Lahore before Eid to curb the spread of the deadly infection.
