The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has okayed the launch of the Bike Scheme, which will provide electric and petrol bikes on an easy installment plan to students across the province. According to the details, the Punjab government will provide 20,000 electric and petrol bikes to students at interest-free installment plans.
The decision was taken during a meeting that discussed possible improvements in the transport facilities of students across the province. Furthermore, the meeting also discussed the launch of hybrid buses for students in order to ensure proper transportation.
How Many Bikes Will Be Available?
According to the details, the government will provide a total of 20,000 bikes, including 1,000 electric bikes and 19,000 petrol bikes, to students at easy interest-free installments.
What Will Be the Monthly Installment?
The provincial government has partnered with the Bank of Punjab (BOP) to provide e-bikes and petrol bikes under the Punjab Bike Scheme. As per available details, the installment for electric and petrol bikes will be set at Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000, respectively.
When Will Bikes Be Delivered?
The bikes will be delivered after the provincial government conducts a draw in May of this year in order to ensure complete transparency.
What is Quota System?
The bikes will be provided with an even quota of 50% for male students and 50% for female students in urban areas. Meanwhile, the quota will be 70% for male students and 30% for female students in rural areas of the province.
Who is Eligible?
All students across the province are eligible to apply for the Punjab Scheme. However, the scheme will start operation in major cities and gradually make its way to other areas of the province.
