The Government of Punjab has decided to launch the Digital Hunar 2.0 Program to empower youth with digital skills and boost job opportunities. According to the details, the Digital Hunar Program 2.0 will help to create at least 20,000 jobs across Punjab and benefit not only youth but the economic growth of the country.
For this purpose, a consultation session and a programme design workshop was held at Arfa Software Technology Park to discuss the roadmap for Digital Hunar 2.0 Programme. The event was organized in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), Punjab Higher Education Department (HED), Planning and Development (P&D) Board and the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT and ITeS (P@SHA).
The event was attended by the Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfaraz, PITB DG e-Governance Sajid Latif, Government College University (GCU) and Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi, Government College University Faisalabad VC Prof Dr Shahid Kamal, Member Social General and IT Services P&D Muhammad Masood Anwar and P@SHA Chairman M. Zohaib Khan, who were all key guest speakers at the event as well.
Furthermore, the consultation session was also attended by key stakeholders from the Government, IT Industry, and academia to share their point of view regarding the planning and execution of the Digital Hunar 2.0 Program.
According to Punjab IT Minister, Dr Arslan Khalid, every year there are at least 16,000 university graduates from Punjab out of which 54% contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the Digital Hunar Program 2.0 will help create 20,000 jobs across the province and benefit only only the youth, who are looking to get jobs, but also the country’s economic growth.
Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfaraz stressed on the need to equip the youth with both digital skills and academic knowledge. He said it was absolutely essential to train both students and faculty members of the educational institutes with the latest tech (aka Digital) skills in order to build a stronger human resource and quality professionals.
“Design 2.0 is a series of capacity building training workshops that will employ experts from the IT industry to train university faculty members and young professionals with the latest tech driven skills.” said Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi. “This will also help in bridging the gap among the academia, IT industry and the students,” he added.
It was revealed that the Digital Hunar 2.0 Program will be launched in January 2023 as part of the ‘Taleem Aur Hunar Sath Sath’ and it will be delivered to graduating batches over a period of six months. It is pertinent to mention that Punjab Government’s “Taleem Aur Hunar Sath Sath’ initiative has already been successfully held in some of the main cities of the province.
The purpose of the initiative is to empower youth and train them with both the latest tech skills and academic education.
