The Punjab Excise Department has provided clarification regarding the delayed issuance of smart registration cards, addressing the concerns raised by numerous citizens who had applied for the cards several weeks ago.
In an official statement, the provincial Excise Department acknowledged that the tendering process had caused a delay in the card delivery. However, they assured the public that the delivery of cards would resume without interruption within the next three to four weeks.
Additionally, the Excise Department issued a sincere apology to citizens for any inconvenience caused by the delays. They expressed their commitment to promptly resolve the issues and ensure a smoother process moving forward.
Earlier, the department had temporarily halted the production of smart cards for cars and bikes due to the cessation of operations by the contracted company. Despite issuing a late tender, the progress faced challenges beyond the technical bid phase.
At that time, the department grappled with a backlog of 2.5 million number plates and explored alternative solutions, including the introduction of virtual cards, to address the situation.
In a recent significant development, the Excise Department announced the launch of a doorstep service for car and bike registrations. To avail this service, individuals can book an appointment through the Punjab Information Technology Board’s helpline at 080008786.
A department representative will then visit the applicant’s doorstep to complete the entire registration process on the spot.
