In a significant move towards digitization, the Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Department has introduced a virtual registration card for vehicles, addressing a longstanding issue faced by new vehicle owners in the province. The absence of physical registration cards has previously led to fines imposed by traffic police, exacerbating the problem for owners.
As revealed in a recent social media post by the department, individuals who have registered their vehicles but are yet to receive the physical cards can now obtain a digital version through the department’s website. The process involves visiting this link and entering the registration and chassis numbers to generate the virtual card.

Once obtained, vehicle owners can easily download and store the digital card on their mobile devices, providing a convenient and accessible solution. In a tweet, the department proudly announced the introduction of Punjab’s inaugural e-title document, the E-Registration Card.
This initiative by the Excise department is commendable as it addresses a critical concern for vehicle owners, shielding them from traffic fines and legal complications. It aligns with the government’s broader efforts towards digitalization for citizens. Notably, the government and traffic police had previously allowed online issuance of learner permits and digital renewal of driving licenses.
The introduction of an e-driving license further streamlined interactions with traffic authorities, enabling individuals to display the document digitally to avoid legal repercussions. These digital measures contribute significantly to the convenience of citizens, allowing them to acquire essential documents from the comfort of their homes. Advocates are encouraging the government to continue implementing such progressive policies for the benefit of the public.
