The caretaker Punjab government has exempted the IT sector from lockdown imposed in Lahore and seven other districts of Punjab due to the prevalent smog.
According to the amended notification, the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department has allowed call centers and other IT companies working with international clients to remain open during the lockdown.
However, the new notification has allowed markets to remain open today and tomorrow; however, they will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, cinema halls, restaurants, and gyms have been allowed to remain open today.
The lockdown orders are applicable for smog-hit areas of Punjab, including Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Sialkot in order to curb the worsening smog in these districts.
Earlier, the Punjab government has ordered a complete lockdown in these districts for four days.
Caretaker chief minister, Mohsin Naqvi, made the announcement during a press briefing on Tuesday when Lahore’s air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 390, which is considered hazardous.
However, the revision and exemption of IT sector from the lockdown order will allow businesses in this sector to serve international clients.
