LAHORE: Government of Punjab has made wearing of face masks mandatory in public places in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus according to a notification issued by the Primary and Secondary Health Department of Punjab.
The decision has been taken after a surge in coronavirus cases in the province and rising number of deaths after Punjab recorded its highest single day death toll with 82 fatalities on 19 June 2020.

The notification states:
- Everyone is required to wear face masks or use face covering at all public places, during travel or to conduct any form of business.
- No service is to be provided to anyone found without face masks / face covering at any Government of Private establishment.
According to the notification the this has one into effect immediately and Deputy Commissioners of respective districts are required to ensure the implementation of this decision.

Furthermore, many areas in Lahore has been put under smart lockdown. These areas are deemed as coronavirus hotspots and the decision has been taken to ensure that the spread of the coronavirus outbreak is controlled.
