The Government of Punjab has issued an immediate order imposing Section 144 across the province, effectively prohibiting all political assemblies, gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, jalsas, and protests from 22nd to 24th August 2024. This move comes in response to security concerns and the potential threat posed by such gatherings to public peace, safety, and order.
The order, signed by Ahmad Bilal, Section Officer (Internal Security-II) of the Punjab Home Department, highlights the risk that political gatherings could become soft targets for terrorists and miscreants, endangering lives and property. In light of these threats, the government has taken swift action to prevent any disruption to public safety and tranquility.
Authorities are instructed to ensure wide publicity of this order through the official Gazette, daily newspapers, and broadcasting on Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television (PTV) Lahore.
This directive is part of a broader effort to maintain law and order during a period of heightened political activity and potential unrest in the region.
