The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the “Roshan Gharana” program in order to provide sustainable and cheap electricity to consumers. This initiative will supply solar panels to millions of citizens who consume between 50 and 500 units of electricity.
The decision was made during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by CM Maryam in Lahore on Monday. The “Roshan Gharana” program aims to promote sustainable energy solutions by covering 90% of the cost of the solar panels with the remaining 10% to be paid by the consumers.
These solar panels will be provided in easy installments over five years.
A cabinet meeting on Tuesday will formally approve the program. The government will decide the ratio of electricity from solar panels and the regular power grid based on user needs.
This program aims to tackle high electricity costs and the energy crisis. The government will give priority to the poorest households when distributing the solar panels.
During the meeting, CM Maryam emphasized the benefits of this eco-friendly energy source, stating, “We will not leave our people alone during difficult times. We are trying to protect our people from the effects of the past destruction.”
Highlighting the long-term positive impact of the program, she added, “People will not have to face the present issues after five years.”
