The Punjab government has introduced a commendable initiative, offering concessionary travel cards to people with disabilities with 50% discount on public transport.
Through the 50% discount on public transport fares, these cards help to enhance accessibility for disabled citizens. Aligned with the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act, the scheme is open to all disabled individuals with a government-issued disability certificate.
To obtain the card, applicants can visit the office of the Deputy Director of Social Welfare in their respective districts.

Last year, the provincial government, in a positive move, granted free travel for senior citizens and students on key public transport services. Although the service faced a temporary halt before winter vacations, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently directed officials to reinstate the free travel facility on major public transport projects. This includes students up to class XII enjoying complimentary travel on Metro Buses and the Orange Line Train until the summer vacation.
