The Punjab government has decided to lift the lockdown imposed to curb the worsening smog in several districts after heavy rain improved the air quality index (AQI) across the province.
“After assessing improved air quality post recent rainfall, in consultation with experts and Punjab environment department, we’ve decided to lift the lockdown.” caretaker prime minister Mohsin Naqvi said on X (formerly Twitter).
He added that markets will open tomorrow, and restaurants can resume operations after 6 pm. However, all educational institutions will remain closed till Sunday.

Earlier, the Punjab government revised the lockdown conditions and allowed additional sectors like call centers and IT businesses to remain in order to serve international clients.
As per the original notification, all markets and schools were to remain closed in eight Punjab districts, including Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, and Narowal.
