The Government of Punjab has decided not to extend winter vacations despite the constant demand from parents on account of the ongoing cold spell in the province.
According to the details, the School Education Department (SED) and Higher Education Department (HED) in Punjab made the decision keeping children’s future in mind as examinations were approaching.
The departments have announced that schools and colleges in the province will reopen on January 9 and continue regular classes.
Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister, Dr Murad Raas, also commented on the matter on Twitter. “Why are parents/teachers/students wanting more winter holidays[?].” he asked. “We used to go to school in the same weather and never complained.” he added.
“What is wrong with this generation – no one wants to do anything! Specially study.” he wrote on Twitter.

It is pertinent to mention that Government of Punjab had initially announced winter vacations from December 24 to 31 with schools and colleges scheduled to open from January 2, 2023.
However, the Punjab Government ended up extending winter vacations on the directives of the Lahore High Court (LHC) after the a petition sought the court’s intervention to control rising smog in the province.
Following the instructions, the School Education Department (SED) and Higher Education Department (HED) of Punjab extended winter vacations w.e.f. January 2 to January 8, 2023, and educational institutes will reopen as scheduled on January 9 to resume a full and normal week of classes.
