LAHORE: Government of Punjab will suspend mobile services on 9th and 10th Muharram due to security concerns in 36 cities across the province according to a notification issued by the home department.
However, based on the notification that was issued on 28th July, seven of these cities had no mention of timings for suspension of cellular services and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) requested more information.

Another notification was issued by the Ministry of Interior stating that timings for those seven cities be conveyed to PTA immediately for so that it may suspend cellular services in Punjab as required for security reasons.
It is pertinent to mention that many major news and media outlets of Pakistan have confused both notifications and are reporting that Punjab will suspend mobile services in just seven cities which is incorrect.
Punjab will suspend mobile services in 36 cities across the province as previously stated by the home department. The new notification mentioning the seven cities only directs that PTA be informed of the timings for suspension of cellular services.
