The newly elected Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, pledged to support the youth through innovative initiatives. Following the introduction of iPads and free bus services, she announced a new e-bike program for Punjab students, aiming to alleviate transportation costs.
Punjab e-Bikes Scheme for Students 2024
The name of the project is Punjab Govt E-Bikes Scheme for Students 2024 and it will help to assist students, working women, youth, and disabled individuals in their commute. While the scheme will initially launch for major cities like Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, and Faisalabad, it wil be expanded to smaller cities soon.
Under the scheme, the government will provide around 20,000 electric bikes and 657 eco-friendly buses for female students. Furthermore, the Bank of Punjab will offer a Soft Loan to support students in acquiring e-bikes through easy installments with minimal interest rates and flexible payment plans.
Punjab E-Bike Program
To ensure fairness, separate quotas will be allocated for male and female students, and the application process will be closely monitored to ensure effectiveness. Applications for the E-Bike Scheme can be submitted online starting in May through the government platform.
School Buses for Female Students
Additionally, CM Maryam directed the implementation of a school bus project specifically for girl students in every tehsil of Punjab, aiming to reduce upfront costs for students. This initiative was discussed in a meeting with senior officials where progress on various transport projects was reviewed. The first phase will see buses operating in major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur.
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz instructed a reduction in housing installments for low-income individuals and set deadlines for land allocation for housing construction in districts, emphasizing measures to minimize housing costs.
