The caretaker government in Punjab is set to roll out an initiative involving electric bikes (e-bikes) to address the alarming levels of smog, as revealed by Ibrahim Hasan Murad, the provincial Transport and Livestock Minister.
Under this plan, the government intends to offer electric bikes to its employees through a leasing arrangement. Murad highlighted the potential of e-bikes to reduce dependence on expensive fuel and contribute to environmental preservation in urban areas.
Expressing the significance of an electric vehicle policy, Murad emphasized that incentivizing electric vehicle manufacturing could enable Pakistan to secure a notable share in the global EV market.
He described e-bikes as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional transportation. Additionally, the minister highlighted ongoing efforts to curb the menace of smoke-emitting vehicles, underscoring the government’s commitment to environmental well-being.
Furthermore, Ibrahim Hasan Murad disclosed that the crackdown on vehicles contributing to environmental pollution will persist until the next month. It is worth noting that the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab had previously announced a subsidy program for 10,000 electric bikes designated for students.
