The Cabinet Committee on Thursday recommended that the Government of Punjab increase the legal marriage age for girls from 16 to 18 years.
The proposal is now awaiting approval from the full cabinet of Punjab, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Following the cabinet’s approval, the recommendation will be presented to the Punjab Assembly as a proposed bill.
If the Assembly approves the bill, the legal marriage age for girls in Punjab will officially be set at 18 years.
Furthermore, the Cabinet Committee also proposed expanding the jurisdiction of the Walled City Authority to encompass the entire province of Punjab.
These initiatives reflect ongoing efforts to reform and improve governance and societal standards within the province.
