Hammad Azhar, a key figure in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former federal minister, announced his resignation as Central Punjab president on Thursday.
Azhar shared the news on the social media platform X, expressing concerns about limited access to party leadership and key decisions being made without his input.
He stressed that his resignation was not tied to any press conference or agreements with other parties.
Azhar voiced his frustration with the current state of PTI’s organization in Punjab, noting that many decisions were driven by lobbying rather than merit. He also mentioned the restrictions on his movement, particularly avoiding travel to Adiala.

Hammad Azhar responds to Omer Ayub the opposition leader and PTI’s frontman “I am humbled by your confidence in me. But it is my firm decision to not continue under the circumstances where I have zero authority but complete responsibility. Furthermore, nobody can survive the wrath of the ‘messengers’ unless one has access to the party leader himself.”
Despite his dissatisfaction with how his contributions were sidelined and biased information being presented to the party’s chairman, Azhar remains committed to PTI’s vision but felt stepping down was necessary given the circumstances.
