Former Pakistan cricket captain Ramiz Raja criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), citing the “collapse” of the country’s cricket following their exit from the 2023 World Cup. Pakistan’s defeat to England, unable to limit their score and falling short in their own chase, led to their elimination from the tournament.
Raja expressed disappointment on his YouTube channel, questioning the team’s performance and the board’s decisions. He highlighted the inefficacy of the bowlers, criticizing the approach to leadership under Babar. Raja also criticized the PCB’s reliance on changing captains and coaching staff as their primary solution.
He urged for a halt to the practice of leaking news during crucial events and heavily criticized the newly appointed interim chief selector, Tauseef Ahmed. Raja emphasized the need for genuine passion and commitment to the game, suggesting a shift in mindset and a stop to favoritism in media disclosures.
In addition to speaking out about collapse of Pakistan’s cricket, Raja raised concerns about the conditions of local clubs, stressing the need for a systemic change within the cricket board itself in order to get everyone’s favorite sport back on track.
Pakistan’s World Cup campaign ended with eight points out of 18 after the team lost five out of nine matches, resulting in their failure to reach the semi-finals for the fifth time this century. Their last appearance in the semi-finals was during the 2011 World Cup against India, which also ended in defeat.
