Rawalpindi Traffic Plan for PSL 9 Matches

Rawalpindi Police has announced a detailed traffic plan for the city during the upcoming PSL 9 matches, as the Pakistan Super League relocates its action to Karachi and Rawalpindi for the tournament’s second phase starting February 28, 2024.

The traffic plan includes the closure of several roads during the transit of teams to and from Serena towards the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Commuters are strongly advised to plan their journeys in advance, taking into account the diversions and alternative routes available.

Updated Rawalpindi Traffic Plan

To ensure smooth transportation for all teams staying at the Serena Hotel, a designated traffic plan will be implemented starting tomorrow.

• Departure and return routes: Team buses will primarily use the Srinagar Highway to travel from the Serena Hotel to the ICCO parking area at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This route comprises 18 designated stops from the departure point to the destination.
• Diversion points: To facilitate the exit of teams from the hotel, diversion points such as Radio Pakistan Chowk and France Turn will be utilized. From there, the route extends to the Dhokari Suhrawardy and Srinagar Highway.
• Additional diversion point: Once team buses complete their journey on Srinagar Highway, they will proceed towards the Pakistan Convention Centre. An alternative diversion point, Kashmir Chowk, is available if needed.
• Final leg of the route: After passing the Pakistan Convention Centre, the route leads to Margalla Motel. Subsequently, buses will divert towards Sports Gate No.1 near Committee Chowk in Rawalpindi. The route concludes at the main gate of Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, where the ICCO parking lot is located.

To ensure smooth traffic flow during peak hours and office timings, diversion points like Aabpara Chowk Kashmir Highway will be utilized throughout the day.

Additional Details

• All general traffic originating from Club Road will undergo diversion, directing vehicles towards Srinagar Highway, commencing from the Serena Chowk traffic signal.
• In conjunction with the scheduled departures at approximately 1700 hrs and returns around 2300 hrs of cricket teams, a complete closure of Murree Road from Faizabad to Double Road will be implemented.
• Traffic inbound from Islamabad will undergo rerouting, directing vehicles from Faizabad towards the Expressway.
• For traffic traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad, a diversion will be in place, guiding vehicles from 6th Road Chowk onto Saidpur Road.
• Vehicles arriving from 9th Avenue, Islamabad, will experience redirection onto IJP Road as part of traffic management measures.
• Throughout the duration of the match, Stadium Road will undergo full closure on both sides, commencing from 9th Avenue Chowk towards Double Road.

It’s important to highlight that the initial phase of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 9) is presently in progress in Lahore and Multan, with the final match slated for February 27, 2024.
