Four people have been reportedly injured while the plane tried to land. The passenger jet skidded on ice and its wheels collapsed. Yakutsk is known as one of the coldest city of the world.
An emergency evacuation was carried out of all 92 people on board as there was fear of fuel leakage.
Passengers and crew members used four emergency slides to escape the Sukhoi Superjet-100 belonging to Yakutia Airlines.
The flight had taken off from the eastern Siberian city of Ulan-Ude. As the pilot tried to stop the plane at the Yakutsk runway it skidded out of control
The landing gear under the wings collapsed as it finally stopped. The rear of the plane lurched back leaving the nose in the air.
The plane did not catch fire even though there was a fuel leak. Emergency crews sprayed the stricken Russian-made aircraft.
Wet snow had frozen on the runway causing the treacherous conditions, officials said. The plane landed even though the icy runway was not ready for landing.
The Jet is Believed to be Beyond Repair
The aviation sources have also maintained that the plane skidded as the runway was covered with ice and as a result landing gear was damaged. At the time of landing the temperature in Yakutsk was slightly below freezing.
According to the Siberian Times, the jet is believed to be beyond repair.
The airport was closed in the wake of the accident with 16 flights delayed and three sent to an emergency airport in the village of Chulman.
