KARACHI: A powerful explosion ripped through a sewerage line near the Super Highway in Karachi’s Sabzi Mandi area, causing chaos and sending motorcycles flying into the air.
The blast, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, resulted in significant damage to vehicles and sparked widespread panic among local residents.
The intensity of the explosion was so severe that one motorcycle was catapulted into the air, landing on a nearby parked car, causing considerable damage to both. Although no casualties were reported, the incident left a trail of destruction, with several vehicles severely damaged.
Responding quickly, police and bomb disposal squads cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence. Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion was triggered by accumulated gas in the sewerage line, which ignited under pressure.
Authorities have already secured CCTV footage from the vicinity of the blast to aid in the investigation. While the absence of casualties is a relief, the incident underscores the lurking dangers within urban infrastructure, particularly the risks associated with gas build-up in sewerage systems.
Further investigations are expected as authorities aim to prevent similar incidents in the future, ensuring the safety of the city’s residents and infrastructure.
