KARACHI: Sammi Deen Baloch, a leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), has been released after the Sindh government removed her name from the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance.
She was detained on March 24, along with others, for 30 days for violating Section 144 during a protest. Her lawyer, Jibran Nasir, confirmed her release, stating she is now reunited with her family and calling it a “positive step” by the state.
The release follows an FIR filed by police against BYC leaders and their armed supporters for allegedly inciting violence, attacking hospitals and officials, and holding violent protests.
The unrest stems from a March 21 demonstration in Quetta, organized by the BYC to demand the return of terrorists’ bodies killed in the Jaffar Express operation.
According to the Quetta commissioner’s office, the protest escalated when armed protesters fired on police and pelted stones, resulting in three deaths, including an Afghan citizen.
