Islamabad, October 21, 2024 — The 42nd South Asian Network Operators Group (SANOG) conference has officially commenced in Islamabad, bringing together experts from across the Asia-Pacific region to tackle key issues related to data networks, cybersecurity, and regional cooperation. Organized by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the four-day event aims to foster collaboration among IT professionals, network operators, and telecom industry leaders in addressing emerging digital challenges.
In her opening remarks, the Minister of State for IT & Telecom, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, emphasized the significance of digital connectivity for Pakistan’s future. She highlighted key government initiatives, including the deployment of new submarine cables, the distribution of 1.1 million laptops to students, and the establishment of National and Provincial Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs).
Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, lauded Pakistan’s ongoing digital transformation, noting the rise in IPv6 traffic, the importance of DNSSEC revalidation improvements, and the anticipation surrounding upcoming 5G spectrum auctions. He stated that these developments are essential for advancing Pakistan’s position in the global digital landscape.
SANOG Chair Rupesh Shrestha called for greater cooperation among South Asian network operators to enhance regional capacity-building efforts. APNIC Director General Jia Rong also stressed the importance of fostering regional partnerships in the digital ecosystem.
The conference will include a series of technical sessions and workshops focused on cybersecurity, routing security, and network automation, ensuring that key industry stakeholders continue to lead in the face of evolving digital threats.
