The Sharjah Charitable Society has announced its ambitious plans for the ‘Joud’ Ramadan campaign, aiming to raise Dh136 million to fund various assistance programs. ‘Joud,’ which means generosity in Arabic, is an annual charitable drive that coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, expected to commence on March 11 pending the announcement by the UAE’s moon sighting committee.
Headed by Sheikh Saqr bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the campaign’s High Committee Chairman, the unveiling took place at a recent press conference in Sharjah. Ali Mohammed Al Rashidi, leading the Society’s Investment Resources Sector, emphasized the reliance on philanthropic ‘zakat’ donations, forming a significant portion of the campaign’s objectives.
Key allocations include Dh65.1 million for five main projects, Dh12.4 million for 830,000 iftar meals, Dh1.7 million for Ramadan baskets benefitting 17,250 individuals, and Dh3.2 million for Zakat Al Fitr benefiting 40,000 persons. Additionally, Dh862,500 will provide clothing for Eid Al Fitr celebrations for thousands in the UAE and Egypt, while Dh1 million aims to alleviate financial hardships for inmates in cooperation with Sharjah Police.
Moreover, the campaign aims to extend its impact globally by supporting water and housing projects in areas facing scarcity and constructing residential complexes for the needy. Medical campaigns in remote regions worldwide are also slated for launch.
Reflecting on the success of the 2023 Ramadan campaign, Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, Executive Director, applauded donors for surpassing the Dh125 million target, reaching Dh129 million. Dr. Yaqoub Al Naqbi, a board member, expressed gratitude for overcoming challenges and highlighted the enduring generosity of the UAE’s people, citizens, and residents alike. The Sharjah Charitable Society’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian efforts continues to uplift communities both locally and globally, embodying the spirit of compassion and generosity ingrained in Ramadan’s essence.
