The Shawwal crescent moon (Eid Chand) was sighted by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (RHC) on Tuesday and Eid ul Fitr 2024 will be celebrated on April 10 (Wednesday).
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held its meeting in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad for the sighting of the Shawwal moon (Eid Chand), while zonal and central committees met simultaneously at their respective locations in all four provincial capitals, including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta.
Earlier, the central moon sighting committee asked for Shawwal moon sighting testimonies from different parts of the provinces. However, the final announcement will be made by the committee’s chairman, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the new moon was born at 11:21 p.m., and its age was between 19 and 20 hours during the meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (RHC). The weather department added that the skies in the southern areas of the country were expected to remain clear, which meant increased chances of sighting the Shawwal crescent moon.
Apart from the members of the central moon sighting committee, the officials of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), and the Ministry of Science and Technology were also present in the meeting.

It bears mentioning that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced that Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday (April 10) after the Shawwal moon was not sighted on Monday, which meant the holy month would complete 30 days.
