The provincial government in Sindh has announced a public holiday on 1 September 2023 on the occasion of Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, said a notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department.
“The Government of Sindh of Sindh declares 14th Safar 1445 (A.H) 01st September, 2023 (Friday), as Public Holiday throughout the province of Sindh on the occasion of Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (R.A),” said the notification.
The notification added that all offices, autonomous, semi-autonomous bodies, Corporations and local councils under the administrative control of Government of Sindh shall remain closed during the public holiday.
However, there will be an exception for essential services.
The Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai begins every year on 14th Safar (2nd month of Hijra calendar) and lasts for three days during which poetry marathons, literature conferences and other activities are carried out.
The Sindh Government announces a public holiday every year on the occasion of Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai as thousands of his devotees turn up to pay their respects to the great Sufi saint and poet of Sindh.
