The Sindh Government is considering closing schools in Karachi as cases of the new Omicron variant are surging in the city.

It is pertinent to mention that all educational institutions in the province re-opened on 3 January (Monday) after winter vacations despite the rising cases of the new Omicron variant.

The Sindh Health Department has announced that authorities are monitoring the situation and final decision regarding closing schools in Karachi will be taken in the next two or three days.
According to the Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan, the coronavirus infection rate in Karachi has crossed 8.9% and the majority of these cases being reported are of the new Omicron variant.
He urged the public to follow SOPs, wear masks, and get vaccinated as most of the cases being reported are of unvaccinated people.
