KARACHI: The Sindh Government will start the first phase of the coronavirus vaccination drive from February 3, according to the provincial health minister Dr Azra Pechuho on Monday.
In the first phase, the vaccine will be given to front-line workers fighting coronavirus, said Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho.
During the second phase, everyone above 60 years of age will be vaccinated after which the general public will be inoculated, the health minister said.
The health minister also mentioned that the Sinopharm vaccine is 90 percent effective against the coronavirus.
Moreover, the Sindh health minister said that vaccination centers will be increased across the province during the last phase of the vaccination drive to meet the requirements of the people.
Sinopharm vaccine arrives in Pakistan
Earlier today, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan confirmed the arrival of the first consignment of COVID-19 vaccines from China.
“Alhamdulilah the first batch of Sinopharm vaccine has arrived! Grateful to China and everyone who made this happen.” the SAPM said in a Twitter statement. “NCOC & provinces played an instrumental role in tackling COVID.”
“I salute our frontline healthcare workers for their efforts & they’ll be first to get vaccinated” he added in his statement.

Pakistan is also scheduled to received 17 million doses of the AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine under a global scheme to deliver coronavirus treatments to developing nations.
