KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has taken a significant step in advancing healthcare services by announcing the introduction of an air ambulance service, following a model first implemented in Punjab.
The service is expected to revolutionize emergency medical response in the region, ensuring swift transportation of patients in critical condition.
This development was formalized on Monday when an agreement was signed between the Sindh Local Councils Association and the Aircraft Sales and Services (ASSL), a private aviation company renowned for its expertise in medical air transport.
At the official signing ceremony held in Karachi, Sindh’s Minister for Planning and Development, Nasir Hussain Shah, highlighted that the introduction of the air ambulance service is a crucial part of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s broader vision for improving healthcare access across the province. Shah emphasized that the service is not just limited to Karachi but will be extended to other cities across Sindh to ensure that the entire region benefits from this life-saving initiative.
Sindh provincial assembly member Saeed Ghani provided further details about the operational scope of the service. He mentioned that the air ambulances would initially cater to patients in remote areas such as Ghotki, Sukkur, and Khairpur, facilitating their rapid transfer to Karachi’s well-equipped hospitals. This move is expected to significantly reduce mortality rates in emergencies where time is of the essence.
Meanwhile, Punjab Government in 2017 launched free Motorbike Ambulance Service in the province under the supervision of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. The Sindh Government might do the same to enhance the health facilities where normal ambulances cannot enter.
