The Sindh Health Department has issued an alert regarding the spread of the dangerous Nipah virus, which affected several people in India.
According to the details, the medical superintendents, directors, and livestock departments have been advised to exercise caution in a letter sent by Sindh’s Director of Health to hospitals.
It is pertinent to mention that Nipah virus known to transmit between humans and from animals, making it a potentially dangerous disease.
Nipah virus’s symptoms include fever, headaches, body pains, respiratory distress, vomitting, and, in severe cases, coma.
First identified in 1998 during an outbreak among pig farmers in Malaysia and Singapore, Nipah Virus is able to affect humans through contact with bodily fluids of infected bats and pigs.
Although uncommon, some documented cases of transmission among humans has also been recorded.
There are no vaccines to prevent or cure the infection, which has a mortality rate about 70%.
