On Tuesday, the Sindh Police took swift action, arresting four of its personnel from the Sakrand police station following confirmed allegations of corruption raised by Pakistani cricketers Sohaib Maqsood and Aamir Yamin on social media. The cricketers accused the police of extortion when they were stopped while traveling from Karachi to Multan after participating in the National T20 Cup as part of the Multan Regions team.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Parvez Chandio, stated that a case has been registered against the accused officers for accepting money from the cricketers. This prompted the suspension of the Station House Officer (SHO) and head inspector of the Sakrand police station, who were found guilty of negligence, according to the Sindh police spokesperson.
An inquiry report by DIG Shaheed Benazirabad detailed the bribery incident, specifying the involvement of four policemen from the Sakrand police station. A formal First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against them, initiating legal proceedings. The spokesperson confirmed the suspension of the SHO and other officials due to their negligence, with an inquiry report forwarded to the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh.
Chandio emphasized that legal action is underway, with a formal FIR being registered against the accused officials. The incident occurred at the Kairia stop, where two police vehicles were stationed for duty, as reported by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Haider Raza. To aid in identification, photographs of the officers were sent to Sohaib Maqsood.
Earlier, the police had announced an investigation and pledged departmental action against the officers involved in soliciting bribes from the cricketers. The investigative efforts were intensified by collaborating with the police, motorway police, and excise police, deploying them on the National Highway.
SSP Haider Raza assured that those found guilty in the incident would face punishment. The incident has shed light on issues of corruption within the Sindh Police, prompting a swift response from authorities to address the misconduct and uphold accountability.

Cricketers Sohaib Maqsood and Aamer Yamin criticized the Sindh Police on social media, alleging corruption and inappropriate behavior during their road trip from Karachi to Multan. Expressing relief at living in Punjab, they recounted being extorted twice within 50 km, even after revealing their status as international cricketers.
Sohaib shared on social media that despite explaining their situation, the police took 8000 rupees and allowed them to proceed. The posts caught the attention of Inspector General Sindh, Riffat Mukhtar, who directed DIG Shaheed Benazirabad to urgently investigate and take strict action against those involved.
The National T20 Cup is ongoing in Karachi, featuring 18 teams competing for the trophy. Sohaib and Aamer’s complaints shed light on alleged corruption within the Sindh Police, prompting an official investigation and calls for exemplary measures against the accused. The group stage games will continue until November 28, with the Super Eight stage commencing on December 1.
