Sindh Transport Minister, Sharjeel Memon, on Thursday announced that Sindh Government is going to introduce an e-taxi service for passengers in Karachi, which includes pink-colored taxis that will be launched specifically for female passengers.
According to the details, the first phase of the project will see the launch of over 200 electric taxis, with 50 of them designated as pink e-taxis, which are going to operate specifically for women in Karachi.
The aim behind the move is to provide convenient and reliable transportation option for females in the metropolis. “A modern, affordable and environment-friendly electric taxi service will be launched in Karachi and extended to other major cities of the province,” Memon told media.
In addition to the e-taxi service, the Sindh Government has also decided to improve and enhance its current public bus service under the Peoples Bus Service by adding 500 new buses, which are valued at Rs. 25 billion.
“The electric taxi service will provide affordable travel facilities to people,” he said, adding that the project will also provide job opportunities to the unemployed youth, while eco-friendly taxis will save oil worth billions of rupees.
