KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder and leader Altaf Hussain’s elder sister Saira Aslam, also known as Saira Khatun, has died of a heart attack at the age of 80 in Karachi.
Saira Aslam had undergone knee surgery a few days ago, after which she was shifted home. She was also suffering from a heart ailment. On Friday, she was moved to Darul Sehat Hospital after her health deteriorated and died of a heart attack around 2pm on Saturday.
Saira Khatun has been very active in the party since Altaf Hussain’s self-imposed exile in the UK since 1991, but she has been inactive since the separation of MQM Pakistan and London on 22 August 2016.
MQM leader Farooq Sattar expressed sorrow on her demise and condoled with all of her family members. He said she would be remembered for her unprecedented services to the party.
