GAWADAR: In a tragic incident in Balochistan’s Gwadar district, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus in the Kalmat area early Thursday morning, killing six people and kidnapping three others.
Attack on the Highway
According to police reports, the assailants stopped the bus traveling from Gwadar to Karachi near Kalmat, between Pasni and Ormara.
They forced passengers to disembark after checking their ID cards before executing them. Five victims died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries during treatment. One of the deceased was reportedly from Multan.
The attackers abducted three passengers, and their whereabouts remain unknown. Security forces have launched an operation in the area.
Separate Attack on Goods Transport
In another targeted act of violence, armed militants set fire to three long-body trailers carrying urea from Gwadar port to Afghanistan in the Tajaban area.
Additionally, roads were blocked in Turbat, Panjgur, and Pasni, while similar disruptions were reported in Bolan, Kolpur, and Mastung. A Levies vehicle was also torched in Mastung.
Security personnel have been deployed to the affected regions to restore order and clear roadblocks.
Condemnations from Leadership
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives. He directed authorities to ensure the best medical treatment for the injured and ordered a thorough investigation.
“These terrorists are enemies of Balochistan’s peace and development,” the Prime Minister stated, vowing that such cowardly acts would not succeed in destabilizing the region.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also denounced the brutal execution of passengers, calling it a barbaric act of terrorism. He reaffirmed that such attacks will not weaken Pakistan’s resolve against militancy.
Security forces have intensified their efforts to locate the perpetrators and ensure the safety of travelers in Balochistan. Investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the attacks.
