The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), serving Sindh and Balochistan provinces in Pakistan, has announced plans to ensure gas supply during Sehri and Iftari timings throughout the holy month of Ramzan. This is a welcome relief for residents, who often face gas shortages and disruptions during this period.
SSGC’s Schedule:
- No load shedding: The company will suspend gas load shedding during Sehri and Iftari timings. This means households will have access to gas for preparing meals during these crucial times.
- Planned outages: Gas supply will be suspended during the following timings:
- 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM
Addressing gas shortages:
The SSGC acknowledges the ongoing challenge of declining gas reserves in Pakistan, with an annual decrease of 8–10%. The company is likely implementing planned outages to manage the overall gas supply and maintain pressure during Sehri and Iftari.
Ramzan Dates:
- Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meeting: The committee responsible for sighting the crescent moon will convene on March 11th, 2024, to determine the start of Ramzan.
- Expected Start Date: Based on weather forecasts, the first day of fasting (Roza) is likely to fall on March 12th, 2024.
Overall, SSGC’s announcement provides some certainty and relief to residents during Ramzan. While planned outages are still in place, the focus on ensuring gas availability during Sehri and Iftari is a positive step.
